Midnight Magic
Based on Midnight Magic for the Atari 2600
Converted to Visual Pinball by David Britten

This is an almost exact replica of the Midnight Magic pinball table for Atari 2600. The one major difference is the much more accurate physics model provided by Visual Pinball. Now you can play Midnight Magic the way it was meant to be played!

If you don't already have the LED font, just drag the LED.ttf file into the Fonts directory in the control panel.

It's pretty simple to play: just run the table, and press 1 (one) to begin the game. Use the flipper and plunger keys as you have configured them in Visual Pinball to control the table. All of the rules and scoring are still the same. The game functions as if the difficulty switches on an Atari are set to difficult. The kickers won't appear unless you hit the drop target marked with the arrow. They're there, though.

If you have any bugs to report, send them to brittedg@student.gvsu.edu
Please send me any scoring or logic inaccuracies that you find. I think I've got the table responding properly, but I might have missed something.

2nd Revision - Added the center post. I'm not sure how effective it will be, but it's there. Also, the LED.ttf font is now included in the archive.

Known Issues - i.e. Don't report these to me; I know about them
------------
These are all rather trivial flaws, and don't really impair gameplay. I still enjoy it, anyway.

1. On very rare occasions, the ball will bounce off of the drain - This is because Visual Pinball doesn't support custom sized drains. In order to effectively implement Midnight Magic's wide drain, I had to place a bunch of small ones adjacent to each other. Sometimes, the ball slips between two, and hits the front of the table. It's no big deal, though, since the ball rarely gets anywhere after the bounce.

2. The spinner keeps moving after losing a ball - If anyone knows an efficient way to make the spinner come to a dead stop on command, enlighten me.

3. Fiddling with the plunger just right can "jam" it - This isn't nearly as much of a problem as it was on prerelease versions. If for some strange reason it still happens, you'll have to restart the game. Don't worry; this should never happen under normal gameplay conditions.

4. The table doesn't change color - Nobody's as disappointed about this as I am. I always loved trying to get the original Midnight Magic as far as I could in the score multiplier to see the different table colors. It would have been very difficult to implement, since I would need a different table image for each color. And since I rarely get above a 3X multiplier, finding those colors would have been extrordinarily difficult. Oh well. Maybe in a future release.

5. The table doesn't flash upon earning an extra ball - This too would have required all too many individual image captures to make it practical.
